What’s up with my life?

Aside from blogging for CBC / Radio-Canada, I am now a regular on a TV show on MusiquePlus called M. Net that covers video games and tech related news. I do a segment on retrogaming (mostly) every Friday, which lead me to developed a new hobby…

I collect old video games. Since this September, I bought every console I have ever talked on the show. Most recently, I’ve started collecting NES games, inspired by my friend Guiz DP (which now owns more than 350 titles). I still have a long way to go : I have 108 out of 813 games.

Most of my time this past months as been spent on yet another TV show. I worked full time as part of the research team for Cliquez, a show on TV5 that covers anything related to the web (which nowadays is almost everything). As oppose to what I do elsewhere, I stay behind the camera on this gig.

There’s a new social network in town called GOOGLE+, which is integrated with all Google services (Gmail, Docs, Maps or Search). There is no doubt in my mind that the question you need to ask yourself is NOT whether you should move from Facebook to another social network, but whether you should try something new.

I went to PAB 2011 last month, and as usual I met great people and had great conversations. Did I learn anything new? I don’t think so. The conferences were interesting, but perhaps speakers chose to stick with the theme too much : Every story deserves to be told. Well.

Nevertheless, I’ll be going back next year. You should check it out as well…

Do you know about the YouTube videos called EPIC MEAL TIME? A friend of mine started a YouTube channel called ORDINARY EXTRAS and the first video poste is a parody called EPIC VEGGIE MEAL TIME. Go check it out…

You can now order a new computer shaped exactly like the classic COMMODORE 64. It’s basically a laptop in term of performances, but an interesting vintage hardware for retrogamers such as myself.

PAB 2011 is coming up fast… What was first a dedicated event for podcasters is now much more oriented towards inspiration and creativity for new media producers. The conference is taken place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on June 24th, 25th and 26th (a weekend). If you like the TED approach, you should definitively check this out.

Just came back from PODCAMP TORONTO 2011…

As usual, I went to Toronto’s New Media Unconference with Sylvain Grand’Maison. We were both surprise how many of our friends were missing in action, but were glad to see that some of them were still active : Scarborough Dude, John Meadows, Rob Lee, Daniele Rossi, Connie Crosby, Eden Spodek, Miranda, Teresa, Dave and everyone else I forgot. Montrealers were “in the house” with Eva Blue, Georgiana Laudi, Stephanie Normandin, Sandy Sidhu, Kathryn Presney and CT Moore.

There was some interesting sessions, but because they announced the event at the last minute, it seems to have had an impact on the quality of the proposed sessions. Sylvain and I hijacked an empty room to record some audio footage for the CANADIAN PODCAST BUFFET, be on the lookout for a new episode this week. We basically asked individual people from a growing crowd : What is your definition of a social media douchebag?

Have you seen THE SOCIAL NETWORK?

I went to see it with a couple of bloggers on it’s opening day. Because the trailer seemed to be focus mainly on sexual scenes, I was under the impression that I was going to see yet another teen movie.

Instead, I saw something quite remarkable : a good movie. There’s a lot of debate around whether or not things happened the way it is shown in the movie. Obviously, we will never get the full picture since the major real life characters of that story will never publicly disclose what really happened, and they could only give us their interpretation of what happened anyway.

If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t hold back. It might be one of the most important movies of 2010. With Trent Reznor doing the score and Davd Fincher directing, this movie is definitively going somewhere interesting…

Did you know that BACK TO THE FUTURE is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year? If you are in the Montreal area, come join us to a special screening on Monday October 25th at the AMC Forum theater. We’ll get a first look at the remastered version that will be released on Blu-ray the next day.

Your are not dreaming, the HEADPHONES REQUIRED podcast is back!

About 2 years ago, I’ve decided to scrap the original bilingual concept of my podcast in favor of a French, my first language. The show was renamed MES PAROLES S’ENVOLENT and slowly evolved into something more tech / web related, even thought music was still playing a key element here.

I’ve recently published my hundredth podcast (I didn’t feel like resetting the numbering of my shows) and I wanted to spice things up a little bit. MES PAROLES S’ENVOLENT will feature interviews now, and since I won’t be able to play as much music as I would want to, I thought that reviving my first concept as an English podcast could work in parallel.

So there you have it : all the music that once made the HEADPHONES REQUIRED podcast so great, with my comments in English. Some of these tracks will appear as well on my other podcast, but the best place to experience my music discoveries / suggestions will be here.

Oh and I won’t fuck around with useless blogposts. Everything published here is a podcast, period.
